ABOUT LAUREL HOUSE
Laurel House provides a range of trauma-informed, evidence based, therapeutic services to victim-survivors of sexual assault, and for children and young people who use harmful sexual behaviours.
We also develop and deliver a broad range of programs to adults, young people and children including the provision of therapeutic face-to-face counselling at our centres located at Launceston, Devonport and Burnie and through outreach locations across the North and North West Tasmania. Laurel House is partnering with the Tasmanian Government in the delivery of the North and North West Arch centres (multidisciplinary centres) for victim-survivors of sexualharm. Laurel House delivers the specialist programs for children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours in North and NorthWest Tasmania.
Our team also provides community education programs focused on the prevention of sexual harm and on supporting parents, carers and service providers to better respond to disclosures of sexual violence. Laurel House is funded by the Australian Government to specifically build capacity of the workforce who support victim-survivors with disabilities to recognise and respond to disclosures of sexual harm, and to assist people with disabilities to understand their rights and responsibilities within relationships. Laurel House is a child safe organisation committed to upholding the rights of children and young people, and amplifying their voices.

YOUR NEW ROLE
As a valued member of the Laurel House team, the Human Resources Officer will work as part of the Operations Team to support a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed workplace across the organisation.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role provides high-quality operational HR support including recruitment and onboarding, employee and volunteer records management, workforce administration, policy implementation and coordination of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) systems.
The HR Officer plays an important role in fostering inclusive, equitable and psychologically safe workplaces. You will support employees, volunteers, students and Board members — including participants in our Lived Experience Engagement Program — to access appropriate workplace supports and reasonable adjustments.
This is a permanent part-time position (0.6–0.8 FTE by negotiation), based in Launceston, Devonport or Burnie, with regular intrastate travel required.
This role involves handling sensitive and personal information. As such, the HR Officer is expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, discretion and integrity, and to uphold confidentiality, relevant legislation and Laurel House policies and procedures at all times.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
- Do you have experience providing HR administration or generalist HR support, including recruitment coordination, onboarding and workforce documentation within a complex organisation?
- Do you have a sound working knowledge of employment legislation, workplace health and safety requirements and industrial instruments (including the SCHADS Award), and the confidence to apply these in day-to-day practice?
- Are you confident managing sensitive information with discretion, sound judgement and strong professional boundaries?
- Do you have experience supporting WHS systems — including incident reporting, audits, training coordination or risk management — with a focus on both physical and psychological safety?
- Are you highly organised and digitally confident, with experience using Microsoft Office and HR or workforce systems to manage records and reporting requirements?
- Do you bring a demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed and intersectional feminist practice, and a genuine belief in valuing lived experience as expertise within the workplace?
- Can you work collaboratively with supervisors and leadership while also exercising initiative and sound judgement in a professional HR role?
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
As a valued member of the Laurel House team, you will be supported in your role. We offer:
- A challenging and rewarding role, working alongside highly skilled team members to support victim-survivors of sexual assault.
- Flexible working conditions.
- Competitive salary and not-for-profit salary packaging provisions.
- Paid Parental Leave as per Laurel House Policy.
- The opportunity to extend your skills and knowledge through generous training budget and regular professional supervision (both internal and paid external).
As a Public Benevolent Institution, Laurel House employees receive tax-effective salary packaging opportunities including $15,899 each year tax free. This means you can increase the value of your take-home pay.
