YOUR NEW ROLE
As a valued member of the Laurel House team, the Justice Navigator walks alongside victim-survivors of sexual violence as they define, pursue and experience justice in ways that are meaningful to them.
This role provides independent, trauma-informed and culturally safe navigation and advocacy, supporting victim-survivors to understand their rights, options and pathways — including legal, restorative and non-legal responses — while maintaining clear boundaries between advocacy, counselling and legal representation.
Delivered informal partnership with Women’s Legal Service Tasmania as part of the Tasmanian Sexual Violence Legal Service, you will work collaboratively with legal, therapeutic and community services to reduce the burden of navigating complex systems at times of vulnerability.
In this role you will:
· Support informed choice, autonomy and agency at all stages of engagement.
· Assist victim-survivors to prepare for and engage with justice processes — if and how they choose.
· Conduct risk assessments and support safety planning.
· Advocate within multidisciplinary and cross-sector environments.
· Contribute insights to improve justice responses over time.
This is a fixed-term full-time position until 30 June 2028, based in Burnie, with regular intrastate travel required.
The role requires sound professional judgement, strong relational capability and a deep commitment to survivor-led, trauma-informed practice.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?
· Do you have experience providing trauma-informed, survivor-centred advocacy or support to victim-survivors of sexual violence, family violence or complex trauma?
· Are you confident supporting people to understand their rights and options, while ensuring they remain in control of defining what justice, safety and accountability mean to them?
· Do you bring knowledge of — or the ability to quickly develop understanding of — legal, restorative and alternative justice pathways relevant to sexual violence?
· Can you work collaboratively across legal, therapeutic and community sectors while maintaining clear professional boundaries?
· Are you able to manage complex caseloads, undertake risk assessment and safety planning, and maintain accurate and confidential records?
· Do you demonstrate strong advocacy, communication and relationship-building skills across multidisciplinary and cross-sector environments?
· Are you calm, ethical and able to sit alongside distress, ambiguity and evolving priorities with professionalism and care?
· Do you bring a demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, intersectional feminist practice, cultural safety and survivor-led systems change?
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
As a valued member of the Laurel House team, you will be supported in your role. We offer:
· A challenging and rewarding role, working alongside highly skilled team members to support victim-survivors of sexual assault.
· Flexible working conditions.
· Competitive salary and not-for-profit salary packaging provisions.
· Paid Parental Leave as per Laurel House Policy.
· The opportunity to extend your skills and knowledge through a generous training budget and regular professional supervision (both internal and paid external).
As a Public Benevolent Institution, Laurel House employees receive tax-effective salary packaging opportunities including $15,899 each year tax free. This means you can increase the value of your take-home pay.
