Every week, on average, a Tasmanian primary care practice will see at least five (5) patients who are currently experiencing family and sexual violence, including child sexual abuse.
Tasmania's new Primary Care Family and Sexual Violence Support Pilot (Service Integrators Initiative) helps doctors and other primary health care staff by connecting them with specialist advice and support about family and sexual violence (FSV).
Through this program, Practices will have access to:
– Warm referral pathways to specialist family and sexual violence services
– Advice and support for clinicians
– Assistance with risk assessment and safety planning
– Culturally safe and survivor-informed guidance.
The service is free, integrated and delivered by Tasmanian specialist family and sexual violence services:
- Engender Equality
- SASS
- Laurel House
Through this program, we’re working to ensure moments of disclosure are met with the safety, care, and the connections needed to support healing.
Our aim is to work collaboratively with our health sector colleagues to create safer, more connected care pathways for Tasmanians affected by family and sexual violence.
PCFSVS is funded by the Australian Government via Primary Health Tasmania.
